The Princess of the Purple Dress

Princess Jan 25.bmp

Once upon a time there was a beautiful young princess with tangerine colored hair and royal blue eyes. One day as she was observing her pet kitten coughing up a hair ball she couldn’t help wondering whether or not a handsome prince was going to propose to her at the ball that night. She highly doubted it since most of the princes she knew could hardly have the word “handsome” applied to them and the rest of the princes seemed to make the word “plain” far too complementary.

As she glided across the room to her royal closet to examine the gowns hanging in their stately solitude while her kitten continued in it’s occupation she began to wonder on a new subject, whether or not cat hair really enhanced the beauty of her gowns. She was almost on the point of having her kitten removed from the vicinity of her gowns when suddenly a royal trumpet rang. As this happened quite frequently the princess simply walked as swiftly as she could to the window to see who it was, instead of sprinting, and she felt as though she should have sprinted when she saw for whom the trumpets blew.

For riding into the castle courtyard came a prince so handsome that the princess’s heart was won instantly, though she wouldn’t have admitted it at that time since nobody was around to mention the fact to, except her kitten and it was still too busy to bother with princes, a veterinarian, yes but a prince, no.

As the prince went inside the castle it suddenly dawned on the princess that she probably ought to go down to the main hall to greet him and she was about to rush downstairs when a thought struck her and she stopped suddenly in her tracks, for she had just seen a mirror.

Calmly returning to her room she selected another gown from her closet and with a withering glance the kitten, who seemed completely unaware that it had sent the hair ball in the direction of the princess, the princess changed her gown.

The princess’s lady in waiting arrived a moment later to inform her that she had a visitor and with a word to the lady in waiting to remove the kitten from the premises until it had learned manners and the respect due to the gowns of a princess, the princess quickly made her way into the castle hall.

Now the kitten had really done the princess a favor for the princess had been wearing a pink and purple polka-dotted gown, and pink and purple polka-dot was the only color that the handsome prince really detested. So when he looked up and beheld the princess in her gown of violet, instead of turning his head away in disgust, he gazed at her and then fell hopelessly in love. Being a man of action he instantly proposed and the princess accepted him and they shortly thereafter got married and he carried her off to his kingdom where his seven slobbering Mastiff’s made the princess feel that kittens aren’t so bad after all. But they still lived happily ever after! THE END!!!
