Today I got to meet a real life pointy-haired boss
For those of you who don’t read Dilbert I shall now not offer an explanation as I don’t feel like it. Any way today, Thursday July 22, we went to see an extrusion plant where a friend of my Dad works. Recently they had a change in management. The plant was very interesting to see as we got a tour. It was rather noisy though. At the end we were introduced to the new owner/partner/something, I don’t really know what his position was but he was new to the company and from the description I heard was remarkably like the pointy-haired boss from the Dilbert comic strip, like having employees write long reports that nobody reads instead of working etc. Of course I didn’t mention that to his face, I do have some self control. He even looked and talked like the pointy-haired boss, though his hairstyle was a bit different. Since I am sure that he probably will never read this, and if he did would probably not know that he is the person I am talking about:)
I learned all about Extrusions. They are a “wrought” product instead of a “raw” and are made of aluminum which comes in cylinders and then through several processes are changed into long bars of a shape which are then cut into slices and then you have something. They had some examples of things made from extrusion and among them was a chess set. It was in the room where we did most of the talking and I had a fun time playing with it. The pieces were perfect for stacking together in interesting, for lack of a better word, things and if I can get it my Mom has a wonderful picture of my masterpiece which used all of the chess pieces.
Other things we did today, oh I still havne’t written about Yesterday! Our flight was delayed an hour or more so we had to sit around and wait. And I was so happy to hear that! I had brought my PDP and “Hot Lead and Cold Feet” and Mom, Dad, and I sat in the airport and watched it. John(my brother) is really going to enjoy that movie. The flight was somewhat uneventful, I watched a Roy Rogers and ate five bags of pretzels. I had one to begin with and then asked if I could have some more, only expecting one extra bag and I was handed four more. I was hungry so they vanished quickly.
We are staying at a Holiday Inn and I have a room to myself which is very nice. The heating/air conditioner seems to have one setting, freezing cold, and is slightly noisy though not bad. The television is a horrible device, because its made me stay up late two nights in a row watch AFV, or America’s Funniest Videos. There was a dog playing the piano, a duck that would follow his owner when they got into there car, and many other funny things. It’s a good thing there is no television at our house or I’d be in trouble.
Today we drove all over the place and had each meal in a different state, you can do that up in New England since the states are so small. I forget which state the hotel is in but it is about two hours away from Maine where we had supper in a restaurant over looking the ocean. Tomorrow(or actually Today as it is way past midnight) is Mom and Dad’s wedding aniverary and we are going to Newport. Sadly there will be a LOT of walking there. Hmm, maybe I should tell them to enjoy the day by themselves(after they visit a grocery store and get me some snacks of course) and stay in the room and watch DVD’s, television, write, etc. and let them face the bugs, heat, and exhaustion of touring Newport. So now, since I have to wake up early and wash my hair:( I’d better go to bed and get to sleep.
