The Lord of the Rings Plot Synopsis

I know that somewhere out on the internet somebody wrote a very famous book synopsis on “The Lord of the Rings”. I think that it was famous because it added things unto the story that were not in the book. So since I have read the book through multiple times and know that the name of Eomir’s horse is Firefoot and many other obscure pieces of ancient lore, I consider myself fully capable of writing a better synopsis. So now to begin.(Also if you get an F on your report card for copying this because your teacher didn’t read the book and only saw the movie don’t blame me.)

The book starts with a battle taking place. Arwen, on her way back to her father Elrond in Rivendell, was attacked by ring wraiths and captured. But before she was captured she sent Frodo, accompanied by Sam, with the precious Ring, the only thing that could ultimately defeat Mordor and Saroun, to find Gandalf and with his aid to make their way back to Rivendell and Elrond.

However before they had gotten very far they were attacked and captured by slave dealers. Forced to be slaves they made the best of it until they were bought by a young man named Aragorn who knew the whereabouts of Gandalf. Without mentioning the ring they claimed to belong to Gandalf and when Aragorn was away Frodo attempted to escape and find Gandalf on his own. Sam remained behind and fortunately was taken with Aragorn when he set off to track the escaped Frodo. After a long time of wandering they finally found him. However just as they were about to return they were attacked by several fierce Orcs who wounded Aragorn and Sam badly. But before the Orcs could do much more damage they were chased away by Gandalf who fortunately lived nearby. He took the three of them to his home where they met Merry and Pippin, Gandalf’s two apprentices and as their wounds were being bandaged and fixed Frodo told of Arwen and the mission he had been sent on. Gandalf invited Aragorn to go with him, and help him safely get the ring to Rivendell after he told him a bit more about Aragorn’s father and gave him Anduril, the sword of his father which Gandalf had been safekeeping for him. Aragorn at first objected to going but finally he agreed to go with Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin to take the Ring to Elrond at Rivendell.

Gandalf pointed out that they needed transportation to Rivendell and they set off to Bree where he expected to be able to get it. At the Inn of the Prancing Pony, Gandalf met Legolas and Gimli, Legolas said that his wagon team could get them to Rivendell faster than anybody else around, and for a higher price too (though that was not mentioned like that). After Gandalf agreed to pay him they left and as Gimli got the ship ready Legolas was reminded of a debt that he owed Denethor, the nearby ruler. Legolas said that as soon as he took Gandalf and party to where they were going he would be paid and have the money to pay Denethor back. Denethor agreed to wait a bit on his money but insisted that his son Boromir go with Legolas and Gimli to see that the money matters where correctly taken care of.

Finally the party of nine set out to reach Rivendell. They did not travel far before they were attacked by black riders, or ring wraiths. However with Legolas’s and Gimli’s expert handling they were able to escape them without too much trouble. During the journey Gandalf taught Aragorn how to use his father’s sword. However before they got to Rivendell a single Orc was spotted by Legolas. Since he hated Orcs and didn’t want that Orc telling anybody else that they were in the area he chased him. Big mistake for before the could do much the Orc had led them straight into Isengard.

Here strategy had to be used and with a great deal of cleverness they managed to obtain Orc disguises for everybody, this done Gandalf set off to see if he could open the gates of Isengard so that they could all escape. But after he was gone Aragorn discovered that Arwen was being held a prisoner there. leaving Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin behind with Boromir in charge, him, Legolas, and Gimli set out to find Arwen, but only after a bit of argument. With their Orc disguises doing a good job of disguising them they made their way to the dungeons where Arwen was held captive. After a fight where they slew the guards Aragorn released Arwen and told her that he was with Gandalf, Frodo, and Sam and that she was being rescued. She was very pleased to hear that, but not very pleased when she found that though Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli had been able to sneak in, they didn’t have a plan to get out and since the whole of Isengard seemed to be stirred up to find them they had a very difficult time getting out. finally they threw away their Orc disguises which only slowed them down and after a difficult fight(Gimli slew forty two orcs and Legolas forty one) made their way back to the others. Once together they made their way to where Legolas and Gimli’s wagon team was.

However just as they reached it, they saw Gandalf in a deadly fight with a Balrog. The nearby guards had also noticed this and where watching the battle instead of what they should have been watching. Just as Gandalf was struck down by the Balrog he yelled “Fly you fools” to them and they had the good sense to do it for he had managed to open the gates before the battle and nothing much stood in there way.

They finally made there way with Arwen along to Rivendell where Elrond was very glad to see them. Quickly he told them that Saroun had just discovered a way to aim the volcano fire of Mount Doom at Rivendell and that in less than an hour the lava would be flowing through where Rivendell had been unless the ring of Doom was thrown into Mount Doom. The only way to get there in time was by flying, and fortunately there were many tame eagles. Aragorn and Frodo rode on one and many others went with them as they flew to Mordor and Mount Doom. It was a dangerous flight and when they got there they found that Saroun also had an army mounted on flying steeds.

It was a deadly battle and very dangerous and always in the back of their minds was the fact that at any moment Saroun could unleash the deadly fire upon Rivendell. But finally Aragorn flew close enough to Mount Doom for Frodo to throw in the Ring of Power. Then there was an explosion and instead of the lava hitting Rivendell it destroyed Mordor instead.

Then was a time for great rejoicing and Arwen presented medals of honor to Aragorn and company.

I highly recommend reading the book for you can not get the full flavor and accuracy of the story from merely a small synopsis. It only took me three days to read the book so it shouldn’t take you too long to read it.

Also I would like to add that this post has been written a lot earlier than most of my post. It is only THREE IN THE AFTERNOON and not even ten yet. And it is only about twenty-four days until the cruise!!! I am quite ready to go. It will be so much fun dressing up and eating deserts and seeing places etc.

Let’s see if I can write something funny

Right now I think I’ll try to write a short story and see if I can make it slightly funny. It will take place in or near Fange since I want most of my stories to take place in that place from now on. Fange is a very large capitol city, I haven’t named the whole country yet, but it is all underneath Fange and its kings. So with that intro here I go…

Once upon a clock, a long clock ago there was a very famous clock in the royal museum in Fange. This clock was famous for several reasons, though when you saw it you might wonder why it was so famous. There was nothing really remarkable about it, other than the fact that it was broken from, apparently being shoved very hard onto something round. It no longer kept any sort of time but there was a very interesting tale about it which tour guides attempted to bore visitors with. However despite their best efforts the tale did not always bore the tourists because it was extremely interesting when it happened and without much further ado I shall pretend to be a more interesting tour guide than most and attempt to tell it to you with all of the interruptions from whatever tourists are around.

“It all began a long time ago when there lived a certain clock maker named John Smith.”
“John Smith?” interrupted Tourist One who twirled a black mustache, “Why that is my name!”
“It’s my name too.” said Tourist Five from beneath the brim of his cowboy hat, “Where there as many John Smith’s back then as there are now?”
” No,” Said the Tour Guide, “Back in those days there weren’t as many John Smith’s as there are now but when somebody is even remotely famous, people will name their children after them. However at the time he was the only John Smith in his town. It was rather a small town and hardly needed a clock maker so he did other jobs than just making and repairing clocks.”
“Like what?” interrupted Tourist Two as he fanned his face with his baseball cap.
“Like helping bring in crops in harvest and helping the Lord of the Nearby Castle(Nearby Castle was actually the castle’s name) whenever he needed help for something, which was quite often for the Lord of the Nearby Castle was an adventurous sort of fellow and should have guessed that it would rub off on his only child. Of course if his child had been a boy that would have been just fine but he had a daughter.”
“IS this going to be one of those ridiculous stories where a girl wants to be a knight and have adventures etc.?” interrupted Tourist Two as he put his hat back on his head.
“No, not really. Though Rose does play an important part in the story, it is mainly in the fact that John Smith fell in love with her.”
“Oh, I do hope that this will be a romantic story!” said Tourist Three, a female teenager with blonde hair.
“And I hope it won’t” said Tourist Two. Tourist Three was about to argue the point but the Tour Guide continued hurriedly,
“Actually the story is both romantic and unromantic enough to suit anybody. Now to continue. John Smith had just finished building the clock that you see in front of you,”
“I’m looking the other way, is it still in front of me?” asked Tourist Four, a eighteen year old boy in a black jacket with a red Ferrari emblem on it.
“Um,” said the tour guide, “I suppose not. But to continue, John Smith had just finished that clock which he was going to deliver to the Lord of the Nearby Castle when news came that Vade Dath(A distant relation of the McDath’s who where in a different story) or Lord Dath as he preferred to be called had just decided to begin the take over of Fange.”
“Ug, I hope this won’t be an evil villain trying to take over the world story.” said Tourist Two, who did not seem very easy to please, in fact his baseball cap said on it, “Picky” but that might have been his name.
“Well, Vade Dath never does take over the world.” said the Tour Guide
“You know,” put in Tourist Four facing the Tour Guide, “If you added R’s in the right places and switched the order a bit Vade Dath becomes Darth Vader.”
“Yes, it does, but this story will take forever to tell at this rate so please save your questions for the end of the tour.”
“Yes,” said Tourist Six in very loud voice, “You should all be quiet like I am, can’t you hear how quiet I am?”
“To continue” said the Tour Guide as several of the other tourist told Tourist Six to be quiet, “The news that Vade Dath had begun the conquest of Fange, and that he was beginning it rather near the place where Nearby Castle was, had just reached John Smith as he was setting out to deliver the clock to the Lord of Nearby Castle. So he rode with the messenger to Nearby Castle to see his reaction when the message was delivered. Also, since he was rather short on money at the moment, he wanted to collect his fee for the clock. However when the Lord of the Nearby Castle heard the news about Vade Dath he forgot all about clocks and even several broad hints from John Smith were not enough to remind him of his duty. Well, just as they were all discussing what to do about Vade Dath he suddenly walked into the room.”
“This is soooooexciting!!!” said Tourist Three with a shake of her blonde hair.
“Every one was surprised to see Vade Dath” continued the Tour Guide ignoring her comment, “But he just smiled an evil smile and said ‘Since I have decided to take over Fange I have decided to begin with Nearby Castle!’ He raised his sword and was about to strike down the Lord of the Nearby Castle when…”
“Could you tell me where the gift shop is?” asked Tourist Seven who was passing by and was quite unaware of the reason why several other tourists started glaring at him. He had a passing resemblance to Buster Keaton in more ways than one.
“Head straight down this hall and turn…” began the tour guide.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT???” Tourist Three interrupted, almost screaming at the top of her lungs.
“If you would just wait one moment,” the tour guide said to Tourist Seven who said that he could, “Well, just as Vade Dath was about to strike him down, John Smith rushed to his aid and smashed his newly completed clock down on Vade Dath’s head and that ended another attempt at taking over Fange. The clock was then taken to this museum where John Smith was paid in full and he later married Rose and lived happily ever after. Now to get to the gift shop…”
After the tour guide had left Tourist Four happened to look into his booklet on the attractions of that particular part of the museum and seeing the picture of the clock looked at it. However when he read the description underneath it said “antique clock from the reign of King Larnd. It was damaged when his favorite dog knocked it off the table and stepped on it.” he was rather surprised. And I don’t blame him.
MORAL: Do not believe everything that tour guides tell you and beware of dogs.

I hope you enjoyed that:)

High time for another post

It is amazing that you can feel that you should write another post, and yet not have the slightest idea of what you are going to write when you start writing it. At the moment I don’t really know what I am going to say but I think I should say something. “Something” Any way it is just 25 days until May 2 when I will board a plane heading for Florida where I will get on board the cruise ship!!! Then it is off to Europe!

I hope I’ll write an interesting story soon. Currently I have had some good ideas, but… When I write I will write and then I will hit the “Post” button on my website.

Oh, if you have dogs or are a person who likes dogs you might enjoy seeing “Good Boy”. We just got the DVD and I think every one enjoyed it. We have gotten a lot of new DVD’s lately. Not all good but most enjoyable. The internet definitely makes my job as head of the Entertainment Committee a lot easier. I can view trailers, read reviews, compare prices etc, all from the connivence of my bedroom. It is too bad that with the many technological advances in recent years that ladies clothing is no longer as nice as it once was… Of course I do like blue jeans and they are better for riding a bicycle than southern bell ball dress but… I do like the Medieval, Renaissance, Pre French Revolution, Colonial, Southern Belle, dresses, not to mention all of the dresses from movies in the thirties, forties, and fifties! Oh well, as long as I can sew and go to the thrift store and stuff things in my closet I’ll still have a representation of dresses from times gown by, and dressing up is something that I doubt I’ll ever grow out of.

Books and Movies, Movies and Books

Very frequently, famous works of literature have been made into movies. Also very frequently ardent admirers of the books have been bitterly disappointed at the failure of said movies to accurately portray the plot, characters, places, etc. Of course, it is almost impossible to please everybody however it is also almost impossible to take a book and make a movie with everything from the book in it, unless it is a very short book. For example, I shall use the H2O method. Now supposing you had a container that was completely full of water. The water is at room temperature. Now supposing you froze the water, it would expand and the container would no longer hold it. Thus when one changes form, one’s old container does not not work as well as it did.

Oh dear, I think I have just succeeded in confusing myself! Let me begin again. A book is a book and it is written out in a certain way. You can’t see the action happening and you can’t hear the people talking but you can read about their exact emotion and tone of voice with out any confusion. Also every action of importance is described. In a movie however you see things and hear them but you don’t know exactly what the author intended for you to see and hear and you don’t get the explanations and ()’s. So what I am leading up to is that books and movies are very different and it is extremely difficult to take a dog and make it a cat.

Anyway, the basis of this long discussion that I didn’t really mean to make so long was this, Andrew and I were discussing book to movie adaptations (Lord of the Rings mainly) and I suddenly got the great idea of making a story adaption of a movie that is an adaption of a book. It could be rather funny. But for some reason I don’t feel like writing it, maybe later. Of course I should promise anything showing up because I haven’t even been working on “Legends from Fange” lately.

But to conclude, I don’t think a movie adaption of a book should be judged by the book. For one thing, since they are different things, some things that are good in a book aren’t as good in a movie and visa versa. There fore, though a movie may not be the book, and though things a different between the book and movie, you really shouldn’t judge one by the other for each serve different purposes. But I do think that at the end of the battle Helm’s Deep in the movie the could have got the fact that Gimli killed forty-two orcs and Legolas fourty-one right, in the movie Gimli claimed that he killed forty-three and Legolas claimed forty-two. I wonder how many hundreds of people have noticed this before I did… Any way, it is kind of interesting to be able to point out such small detail and be able to show that my knowledge of Tolkien is somewhat great. Despite the fact that I haven’t read the book lately I still know a thing or two about it.

I would hate to be a professional writer and have deadlines and etc. Because sometime I don’t feel like writing, and sometimes I feel like writing short stories and at other times long and though I hope that they aren’t, some what boring posts. Any way, you can never tell what will show up next on Bethjoy.com.

Which reminds me, I haven’t even mentioned what I was doing all day. We went to a dog show. Since my brother is part of the dog show committee so forth we were all helping and had to be there at a very early hour. So very carefully the evening before I made a list, and planned what I would bring. I even brought everything I planned on bringing but… I forgot my glasses!!! I have twenty four hundred vision, which means that the detail a person with normal eyes sees at four hundred feet, I see at twenty feet. Things are smaller, just fuzzy and it is HORRIBLE for going shopping in. We stopped by Walmart and I couldn’t find a thing almost! I say almost because I did discover two cross stitch books on sale… Even with my glasses off I still manage to bump into sales but I didn’t get what I wanted to get at Walmart and sometimes they stop stocking things before you can buy them… Anyway, I deeply appreciate glasses and I had a fun time at the dog show.

I shall end with this very useful saying, “Do not go to gamble to Los Vegas, for though you may drive in a twenty thousand dollar car you may leave in a hundred thousand dollar bus.” And so that there can be no mistake possible, I am not encouraging gambling or traveling to Los Vegas. Take a cruise instead. And just to remind you. I am going on the Grand Princess and sailing to Europe for a seventeen day cruise on May 2 so for some time after then you will not see posts added here. I’ll try to keep careful records of every day on the cruise ship so that I’ll remember them properly. And now I am tired of posting so I will stop. I hope that this post makes even a slight particle of sense.

Hmm, this would be nice

My previous short story plot was very well received by Daniel so I think that instead of writing a long, dragged out story I shall merely write a history book. In history books there usually aren’t descriptions of places, people, conversations etc. Since I am not good at them anyway I don’t think I’ll miss them. So soon I am planning to write a history book entitled “Legends From Fange” I was going to write another long book with that title but I think that instead I shall write a short story(like the one in the previous post) about the life and doings of the rulers of Fange. Fange is great city and since Geography isn’t too important in a history book since you are expected to all ready know it, I needn’t make up a great deal of Geographic details.

Another nice thing is that it doesn’t take as long to write and finish a short story as it does to write and finish a long one and it doesn’t take as long to read on either. So hopefully this evening I will begin to be a historian and write about the founding (or conquering or renaming) of Fange and the first King. I think maybe in honor of my brother Daniel I might name him King Daniel, but it also might be nice to name him King Eric after my father. Then again I really like the name Aragorn but there all ready is a King Aragorn. So I’ll just have to make up my mind when I start writing it.

My Email Correspondent Sarah

And I are planning on writing a story. We have done so before, she writing one chapter then I writing a chapter and so on. Since we have completely different writing styles and ideas about the characters it is sometimes rather interesting what we come up with. But planning the stories is always very fun! we are planning one right now and I thought I would just type a few ideas for a plot… Two hours later I thought I would post the story plot on here as it is somewhat interesting and almost a complete story in itself. The idea for the plot of the story was having a main character who has all sorts of adventures happen to her. Also Sarah liked the name Alizarin so I didn’t come up with that name but the rest of what you are about to read is all a figment of my imagination and I hope that you like it.

Princess Violet was on her way to visit her Aunt Hildegard one day. She lived on the other side of a large forest that has a very nice path going around it which took only about a day to travel. Since they had been delayed for some reason, Alizarin, Princess Violet’s adventure loving lady in waiting, suggested taking a short cut through the woods, which since it looked like rain and Princess Violet wanted very much to reach her aunt as soon as possible she agreed to take the shortcut.

Once in the forest a thunderstorm came up and turned the path into mud so that the carriage stuck. As they had already been in the forest for quite some time Alizarin was certain that the other side couldn’t be far off so she convinced Princess Violet to mount the carriage horses and ride to her Aunt’s, leaving the servants with the luggage and carriage behind, planning to send some one to fetch them after they reached the safety of Aunt Hildegard’s castle.

However since it was raining and the forest was very muddy, the path soon looked like the rest of the woods and they got lost. Unfortunately of all the directions they could go when they get lost, they took the one heading towards the eastern mountains. The forest continued right up the mountains and there were many dragons living there, as well as several castles belonging to banished nobles, robber bands, etc. However though Princess Violet wass certain that they were lost Alizarin was certain that they weren’t and said that even if they were lost, which was impossible, they’d still get somewhere by heading in the same direction, and they did get somewhere eventually.

They rode up to an open glade with a ruined castle in the center of it. Since it was still poring down rain Princess Violet suggested seeing if there was any shelter in the ruins of the castle. They went in and after wandering about for a bit they finally found a room that didn’t leak and wasn’t crumbling down. Unfortunately a very large dragon had already found the room and had it’s hoard of treasure there. Fortunately(or unfortunately) the dragon did not object to company so Violet and Alizarin stayed the night there.

The next morning they wanted to leave but the dragon wouldn’t let them and insisted on them starting to sort her treasure and to do various other things. However Alizarin(who had read all sorts of books on outwitting and escaping dragons) tried to come up with a fool proof plan of escape but Violet, who was rather scared, suddenly realized that the dragon was too big to get out of the room so while they were sorting some treasure near the door she suddenly grabbed Alizarin’s hand and ran out of the door. The dragon tried to follow but instead knocked down the wall onto itself while Princess Violet and Alizarin reached their horses in comparative safety.

They started off again, unfortunately in the same direction they had been going in the previous night. The woods soon got thicker and darker and though it was still day, strange shadows seemed to be all around them. Finally they come across a bog, Alizarin’s horse began to sink but with expert horsemanship she charged forward to an island of firm ground a little ahead. Princess Violet’s horse followed but just as they reach the seemingly firm ground, it turned out to be not so firm as they had thought and they had to keep galloping on ahead in order not to sink and when they finally did get to firm ground they were quite a ways away from the shore.

There was a hill on the firm ground and they began to ride up it to get away from the bugs of the bog(sounds kind of interesting). Near the top of the hill they found a hut. They knocked on the door and an old women came out asking them who they are and what do they want. Princess Violet said that she is Princess Violet and that they are lost and would greatly appreciate being told where they are. The old women told them that she will gladly tell them where they are for five gold pieces. Princess Violet gave her the gold pieces and the old woman said “Here” then walked back in her hut and slammed the door.

They were rather disappointed and also very hungry but they mounted their horses again and continued riding further up the hill. When they reached the top they had a clear view of their surroundings, unfortunately the surroundings had a clear view of them too and a huge eagle swooped down and carried them off, horses included. They were very worried, and all though they now had an even better view of the surroundings and could clearly see that they had been going in the wrong direction, it didn’t cheer them up much.

The giant eagle was heading for a place very high up in the mountains and after a while they came upon it’s nest. There several young eaglets were and they looked very hungry but just before they were about to be fed to the eaglets an arrow hit the eagle and she dropped them. The shooter of the arrow was a rather unsavory looking man with several well armed attendants who instantly demanded to know who the two girls were. Princess Violet said that she is Princess Violet and this is her lady in waiting Alizarin. “A Princess!” said the man, “You should fetch a good ransom.” then he ordered them to ride with him back to his castle. Alizarin wanted to object but Princess Violet mentioned that being held for ransom is better than being eaten by eaglets and Alizarin gave in.

They rode for quite a long way down the mountain until they finally approached a dark and gloomy castle. It was on the edge of a cliff with sheer sides going down quite a long way and up a long way. It was approached only by a narrow path and since Princess Violet did not have a head for heights so she found it necessary to close her eyes for most of the trip. Once inside the castle they were taken to cell in the dungeons and food was brought to them. They were quite ready for a meal since they hadn’t eaten anything for nearly eighteen hours, all though usually they would have turned up their noses at the food they were given.

Alizarin(who had read many books on escaping from castle dungeons) quickly began examining the cell and trying to figure out a way to escape. This time she didn’t try for a fool proof plan but merely did what seemed most likely to succeed, pick the lock with one of her hairpins. She soon got their cell door opened and since the castle lords thought that nobody could escape from their castle and kept no sentries in the dungeon, Princess Violet and Alizarin were able to walk out of their cell without being noticed.

Unfortunately(but also fortunately) Alizarin was not any better at finding her way out of dungeons than out of forests but they did find their way to where there were two cells with a prince in each. After introductions(the princes’ names were Kilron and Romoul) Alizarin used her trusty hairpin to free the princes and soon the four of them made their way out of the dungeons and into the rest of the castle. They found an armory and all of them grabbed swords and other various weapons and armor (even Violet) and continued on their way.

They still hadn’t met anybody and were beginning to wonder about it when they heard the noises of people talking coming from a nearby room. They stopped to listen and heard the leader of the band of ruffians planning an attack on a nearby town. He mentioned in detail how to get out of the secret passage that led down to the foot of the mountains and how to find the hidden horse stable and how to get from there to the edge of the forest(there were some new recruits being initiated) They left before the speech was over and since Alizarin was not leading and Kilron and Romoul were they found the secret passage and began walking down the long winding stair way.

They successfully got out of it without being seen but they weren’t so fortunate at the stable for nearly fifty ruffians were there. As the ruffians began to run out of the stable courtyard, Kilron, Romoul, and Alizarin grabbed their swords and prepared for battle. Princess Violet was rather scared but she grabbed the sword that she had and tried to do something with it. Having no idea of swordsmanship she began waving it about and fortunately cut the rope that suspended the portcullis. It came crashing down with them on one side and the fifty ruffians on the other. “Great thinking” said Kilron to Violet and they quickly ran to where some horses where all ready saddled, sprang on and galloped off before the combined efforts of the ruffians could raise the portcullis or come out any other way.

It seemed as though this time they would get out of the forest for the had good directions and two intelligent princes to guide them but their adventures were far from over yet. It didn’t start raining again but it began to get foggy and it is very easy to get lost in that forest. After a bit of riding they came on what seemed to be a fork in the road. However on closer examination it turned out to be a silver spoon so they left it lying in the road and went on.

Then came a place where the road split, one way went right and the other way went left. They didn’t remember this in the directions so they chose to go to the right but unfortunately the right way was the wrong way. They road led right into some caves and Kilron and Romoul suggested going back and trying another way but Alizarin said that it was probably just a short tunnel so they went in. Now caves are even easier to get lost in that forest, unless you bring some string with you which they didn’t. After a long time of wandering around the caves where occasionally the words “Short Tunnel indeed” were said and Alizarin wanted to vanish, they finally saw daylight again.

Unfortunately the daylight was coming from a crack in the roof of the cave about twenty feet up from where they were and it was right above an underground lake. This seemed somewhat unfortunate but they were now able to see a little, though as soon as they noticed a strange shadowy beast swimming around in the lake they couldn’t help wishing that they could see something else. But when they noticed another hideously fierce looking creature come in from another cave they felt that they creature swimming in the water wasn’t so bad. The two creatures noticed each other and with strange, eerie noises they began to fight. The water creature was amphibious though the cave creature wasn’t and when the water creature knocked the cave creature into the center of the lake it conveniently drowned right underneath the spot where the light was coming in.

Alizarin, who though she hadn’t read a great many books on how to get out of a cave through a hole in the roof twenty feet up and above water, still was trying to form a plan to get them out, though she wasn’t succeeding very well. But before she could think much further the water creature came towards them. In a snaky unpleasant voice it said “I don’t like strangers in my realms, how do you want to die?” With great quickness of thought Alizarin said “By being put up through that hole in the roof of the cave and shriveling in the light. ” “So be it.” said the water creature. With a curve of its long neck it grabbed Alizarin’s horses and tossed it up the hole. Then it did the same with the rest of them and though they were rather shaken they were out of the caves. Whereupon Violet, Romoul and Kilron were so glad to be out in the fresh air and sunshine again that they said “Thank you” and forgave Alizarin for getting them into the caves in the first place.

But the sunshine was not to remain for long for the lengthening shadows of evening were already beginning. They were now no longer in the forest but they were also no longer on the west side of the mountains either having just gone under them. This seemed to be very unfortunate until Romoul mentioned that his kingdom was not too far away and they accordingly set out for it.

They reached it without further adventure, which was very surprising, but when they got there they found that a revolution had taken place and an evil tyrant named Draklahs had taken over and Romoul’s father was being held prisoner in the dungeons of his own castle. They quickly decided to go incognito to the castle and see what they could do, unfortunately Romoul was recognized and they were all taken to the thrown room where Draklahs was. He laughed a cruel laugh when he saw Prince Romoul brought in and made the mistake of having his father sent for so that he might see him in chains. The reason it was a mistake is their weapons had not yet been taken away from them and Romoul, Kilron, Alizarin, and Violet attacked as soon as the king was brought in. Romoul took down Draklahs while Kilron and Alizarin got his guards and Violet used her newly discovered knowledge of the usefulness of hairpins to free the King and soon he was back on his thrown and quite happy to be there.

Then after thanking them all he agreed to make arrangements to send Princess Violet and Alizarin back to their kingdom and as Kilron and Romoul wanted to see them safely there he sent them along too. Surprisingly they made it nearly all of the way back and had gone through the mountain passes and the forest and where only a days journey away from the castle where Princess Violet’s father ruled before something exciting happened.

It was a beautiful night and the stars were shining bright as Prince Kilron and Princess Violet walked in the moonlight. And he proposed to her and she said yes and though they didn’t know at the same moment Alizarin was just saying yes to Romoul’s proposal. That was a very enjoyable evening and the next day they made it to Princess Violet’s father’s castle. He was very surprised to see her and find out that instead of going for a quite visit to her Aunt she had instead had many adventures and ended up engaged. But he gave his consent and at a double wedding Kilron and Violet, Romoul and Alizarin where married. On their honeymoons they planned to stop by Violet’s Aunts castle but… If a sequel is ever needed what happened on their honeymoon could fill it.
